Find out why scabs post hair transplant appear and how and when rid the scabs after the surgery.
What causes scabs after a hair transplant?
Hair transplant is the best way to fight against women and men baldness. Scabs formation after having a hair transplant in Turkey is a phenomenon that questions many patients. First, it is important to remember that the appearance of scabs after a hair transplantation is quite normal and should not be a source of concern. They are part of the evolution of the hair transplant and its healing, regardless of the hair transplant technique used (FUE hair transplant, DHI hair transplant, manual hair transplant, hair transplant for women or Regenera Activa hair transplant).
Scabs on the scalp usually appear between the day after and 3 days after a hair transplant session. They form after a hair transplant once the bleeding and tissue fluids have stopped. Crusts form after a hair transplant to provide the necessary protection against infection. They function as a barrier over the incisions to defend them from bacteria.
How to remove scabs following a hair transplant?
The period of care to remove the scabs, begins the day after the transplant and until the 10th day maximum.
To remove the scabs after a hair transplant procedure, it is recommended to work as follows
- Shampoo the grafted area daily or use the foam provided by the hair transplant clinic for 30 minutes during the first 7 shampoos following the hair transplant. Rinse with a bottle of water and then shampoo by massaging the donor area and patting the grafted area.
- At the 8th shampoo, apply the foam and leave it on for 1 hour. Rinse with the shower jet at medium pressure. Lather up the shampoo and massage the donor area and the grafted area (with the palm of your hand) until the scabs disappear.
Be careful not to use your fingernails to remove the scabs. Throughout the process, it is essential to be very gentle in removing the scabs without dislodging the transplanted follicles.
For the hair transplant to be successful, it is essential that the scabs be removed 10 days after the surgery. Indeed, if the scabs are not removed after the surgery, the grafts implanted underneath cannot breathe, which can compromise the regrowth. If the hair transplant scabs persist beyond that, it is recommended to consult your surgeon as soon as possible. Also note that alcohol and tobacco use can interfere with the healing process by increasing the risk of scalp bleeding.
